Peng Zhang received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, BC, Canada, under supervision of Professor José R. Martí and Professor Hermann W. Dommel. He is the Centennial Chair Professor, and Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Connecticut, Storrs.  He was a System Planning Engineer at BC Hydro and Power Authority, Vancouver. His research interests include cyber security, microgrids, power system stability and control, and smart ocean systems.

Dr. Zhang has received $8 million extramural funding from NSF, DOE, USDA, Eversource Energy, etc.  He was selected to receive the 2018 Excellence in Energy Award from the Connecticut Power & Energy Society and the 2018 IEEE Region 1 Technological Innovation Award. He holds the August-Wilhelm Scheer Visiting Professorship for Cyber-Physical Systems at Technical University of Munich. He was the Francis L. Castleman Distinguished Professor at the University of Connecticut during 2017-2018.

Dr. Zhang is a Registered Professional Engineer in BC, Canada, and an individual member of CIGRÉ. He is an Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, the IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy, and the IEEE Power and Energy Society Letters, and an Associate Editor for the IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering and the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics.
